If you are a parent of young children, you know that getting time away without the kids is a very real necessity. My wife and I don’t have the opportunity to go on getaways without the kids often, but we have learned and realized how valuable they are.
Living just outside of Vancouver, Canada, we are a few hours drive to the Seattle/Bellevue area – there is something about crossing the border that makes it feel like a real getaway. Some of our favourite shopping is here (Alderwood Mall, Nordstrom Rack, the Tulalip Outlets). So with the help of my parents taking the kids (thanks Mom and Dad) we were off to Bellevue!
When we were picking a place to stay, we knew we wanted something with a great location and breakfast included. We aren’t newbies when it comes to staying at a Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, but we hadn’t had the opportunity to stay at the brand new one in Bellevue. The hotel is in a great location, close to downtown Bellevue, and is a short drive to downtown Seattle.
The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Bellevue is incredible. The rooms are spacious and well equipped – talk about a comfortable bed! Every hotel staff that we came in contact with was so friendly and helpful. The motto that was written in a few placed around the hotel: “making you happy makes us happy” is something that the employees truly live out (from the manager, to the front desk staff, to the cleaning staff, and breakfast crew).
The breakfast each morning was outstanding. They have their own waffle bar where you get to create your own waffles – as well as other hot and cold breakfast foods. Those waffles were almost worth the stay themselves!
Before we had to head back home, we had the pleasure of eating Saturday morning brunch at the brand new Brazilian steakhouse, Fogo de Chão. The restaurant was recommended to us by the staff at the Hampton, and had just opened less than a week earlier.
Neither my wife or I have ever been to a Brazilian steakhouse before, but we knew we were in for a treat.
The atmosphere at Fogo de Chão is exciting – this isn’t your average, “run-of-the-mill” restaurants. Dining at Fogo de Chão is an experience!
Your experience starts out at the market table which is filled with fresh salads, fruits, charcuterie, and other great sides. At your table you are given a card, one side is red and the other is green. Once you are back at your table after visiting the market table, flip your card over to green and get ready for meat!
The servers will constantly bring you a variety of meats by your table for you to eat. One tip we learned was to make sure to periodically flip the card over to red (which lets the servers know you need a break on the meat) – this allows you to actually slow down and enjoy the food!
Our favourites were definitely the Picanha, which is their signature steak, and the Lombo, which is pork medallions coated in Parmesan cheese!
Oh and don’t forget to get the Pão de Queijo (which are warm, soft, cheese biscuits)
Throughout our weekend we shopped, ate great food, and just spent some quality time together – which was much needed after the busy season we’ve had as a family.
It was so great to get away – thanks to the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Bellevue for helping to make it happen!
Until next time…
