Waytk! (“why-t-k” – hello)
Growing up, my grandparents had a cabin on Little Shuswap Lake. Little Shuswap is located around 4 and a half hours from Vancouver and only about 45 minutes from Kamloops. I have so many amazing memories of going there and spending time at the lake during the summer months.
I remember clearly when just down the road from their property the Little Shuswap Band started construction on a new resort. We would walk down the beach to watch the construction happen. I would have never thought years later I would be bringing my own kids to that same spot!
We were excited to be hosted by the Quaaout Lodge, which is an Indigenous owned resort including a hotel, spa (Le7ke Spa) and golf course (Talking Rock Golf). As I said earlier, Quaaout Lodge is proudly owned by the Little Shuswap Lake Band. It is located on Squilax (“s-k-why-lax” – black bear) territory and the language commonly spoken is eastern dialect Secwepemc (“sha-kwep-mc”).
A getaway at the beginning of October was just what we needed after a busy and stressful start to the school year. We lucked out with perfect Fall weather for our trip and the kids even spent some time in the water and at the beach.
We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite which worked out perfectly with the kids along. The suite had a separate bedroom and bathroom for Gab and I, and the kids got to sleep on the pull-out in the living area (with their own bathroom). The room had a huge balcony and a stunning view of the lake.
The Lodge is set on a beautiful piece of property right on the shore of Little Shuswap Lake. During the warmer months, the lake is great for swimming in and doing other water sports; they have their own private dock on the lake.
The kids loved playing in the sand, building sandcastles, and splashing in the water while Gab and I looked on from our cozy spot on the beach. The only thing on our agenda for the weekend was rest, relaxation, and to de-stress and Quaaout Lodge was the ideal setting for us.
I don’t know if you are like me, but I usually don’t have a good sleep when not in my own bed. The bed and pillows were so comfortable I slept like a baby.
On Sunday morning, we had an amazing brunch at Jack Sam’s Restaurant. They had a ton of options for everybody’s tastebuds. The picture doesn’t even do the food justice!

I know that with COVID-19 some people are hesitant to travel or stay in hotels. We appreciated everything that Quaaout Lodge has put in place to help not only make their guests and staff feel safe, but to also help stop the spread of COVID-19. Masks were recommended for guests in common areas (and all staff were wearing them) as well as stepped up cleaning throughout the entire resort.

Kukstsémc (thank you) for hosting us Quaaout Lodge.
It’s definitely on my must stay again list!
There are a lot of fun events happening at the Lodge all year long that makes this destination not just a Spring and Summer hot spot. Head over to their website to check out all the details on what’s coming up.
